I am making a conscious effort to eat healthier. I am not dieting, I am not avoiding all of my favourite not-so-good for me items. I am just making sure I am adding healthier options to my weekly menu. So at this late hour I I thought I would just write about my current craving for poutine instead of late night snacking.

I am craving fries! I LOVE eating french fries.  Who doesn’t love french fries? Add hot gravy to french fries and I am in heaven. When we were kids, my mom used to take out us for lunch during our Saturday shopping days.   What did we order? French fries and gravy of course! That was our thing.

Poutine

I don’t remember exactly when I first tried poutine. I don’t remember it being readily available when I was growing up. When did I get addicted to Poutine? I have to blame New York Fries when it was located at Yonge and Eglinton. New York Fries make the best fries. If you want great poutine, you need to start with perfect fries. If I could have, I would have eating Poutine from New York Fries for lunch every day!

What is Poutine?

Poutine is the best thing that could happen to french fries. I went to wikpedia to get the definition of poutine- just in case some of my non-Canadian readers don’t knon what it is

Poutine (/pˈtn/; Quebec French: [put͡sɪn]) is a Canadian dish, originating in the province of Quebec, made with French fries and cheese curds topped with a light brown gravy.[1] This fast-food dish is typically found across Canada and in some places in the northern United States.[2][3][4] In Canada it is sold in small “greasy spoon” type diners (commonly known as cantines or casse-croûtes in Quebec) and pubs, as well as by roadside chip wagons (commonly known as cabanes à patates, literally “potato shacks”) and in hockey arenas.[5] National and international chains such as Smoke’s Poutinerie,[6] New York Fries,[7] McDonald’s,[8] Wendy’s,[9] A&W,[10]KFC,[11] Burger King,[12] Harvey’s[13] and Wahlburgers restaurants also sell mass-market poutine in Canada (although not always country-wide).[14]

New York Fries

I got hooked on poutine because of New York Fries.  I am not into any of the fancy poutine recipes. Classic poutine for me – I would never mess with perfection! Now I won’t hold it against you if you order another version of poutine, but if you are sharing you had better make sure you bring a classic order for me to enjoy.

Classic Poutine.

How good does this photo look? If only I could eat them off of the screen :).

Where do I get my Poutine now?

South Street Burger is now at Yonge and Eglinton and you can be sure that I drop by for an order of poutine when I can.

How about you. Do you love poutine as much as I do? What is your favourite kind of poutine?
