Don’t you just love this time of year? Although the transition from summer to fall happens so quickly, the crisp air and the falling leaves are always so comforting. Heading into Thanksgiving weekend, I’m taking the opportunity to reflect on what I’m most thankful for this season.
Just this summer, my cat of 19 years passed away. Kalin was actually my fiancés cat, and so he grew up with him throughout his teen years. I only met Kalin in my late 20’s but I immediately fell in love with him. It was only my first time meeting Kalin and my second date with my fiancé-to-be when he came and sat right in between us. He was monopolizing my attention and nothing changed much after that! A grey Scottish Fold, Kalin was a true beauty. In fact, I’ve never met a cat quite like him; gentle, shy, and affectionate. He showed me the purest form of love and in the most unconditional way possible. By the time I met Kalin, he had used up far more than nine lives, so I knew his time with us was precious. Not a single day passed where I didn’t stop to appreciate his presence in our lives.
Today, I’m taking the time to reflect on this. I’m so thankful for the many wonderful years we shared with Kalin. While he is no longer with us, I feel at peace knowing he is in a far better place now. And although he is no longer physically with us, his spirit and all the loving memories we have with him will live on in our hearts forever.
While the love of a new pet can never replace that of an old one, sharing your love with an animal brings joy to your life every day. It took a lot of courage, but once we were ready, my fiancé and I set out to find a new kitten to share our love with. This time we had the joy of choosing one together; in fact, we let him choose us. We’ve just welcomed this new love into our lives and we couldn’t be more thankful. SCOUT is a curious and playful Ragdoll that is eager to please! It will be interesting to see his personality develop as he matures. For now, he is more playful than you can imagine. To show him just how much we love him, we’ve filled our house with toys from Target so he can play to his hearts content. Let’s just say he’s having a ball.

Although it’s that time of year when we think about what we are most thankful for, we can still be thankful for the love of our pets every day. Happy Thanksgiving.
