santa parade

It’s that wonderful time of the year when we can’t get enough hot chocolate, candy canes, family dinners, and the never ending festive feeling. To add on to this holiday spirit, you can attend the Toronto Santa Claus Parade,  which will be performing its 111th annual ceremony this week!

On November 15th, Santa Claus and more than 25 animated floats will commence the march from the Christie Pits (Bathurst and Bloor) at 12:30 and make its way down to St. Lawrence Market (Front and Jarvis). The parade will also include 2,000 costumed participants and 200 Celebrity Clowns who will be leading the way and providing added joy to the crowd. Check out the parade route below to see where Santa will be going with his friends!

What makes the parade so special?

Other than the chance to see Santa, the parade holds historic significance for the city of Toronto. Initially started in 1905, The Santa Claus Parade has become a local tradition that is celebrated and enjoyed by Canadians all across the nation and worldwide. It is broadcasted across North America, and is also enjoyed by viewers as far as New Zealand, Norway and Iceland. The Toronto Santa Claus parade is considered the longest running children’s parade in the world and holds great significance in initiating the festive season.

This year, the parade will be displaying not only a Harry Potter themed float but will also include American League East division champions Toronto Blue Jays, the upcoming Disney-Pixar motion picture The Good Dinosaur, childhood favourite Thomas the Tank Engine, and Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Three floats from Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment also return this year with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Raptors, and the Toronto FC taking part in the celebration.

To find out more about the parade, visit the website for more information. Attendees are encouraged to plan their day ahead of time to avoid any hassle and to make sure they find the perfect spot to view the parade. If you’re coming with children, make sure to bring blankets, extra clothing and enough water, snacks and activities to keep them busy while waiting for the parade to start! Once the march begins, sit back and enjoy the marvelous floats that are in the parade this year!
