My husband’s family are many generational Canadian beef farmers. It is all my husband knows. He even tells the tale of woe from his childhood where he (and his brother and sister) had a roast beef sandwich in their school lunch, every single day. He would often trade or giveaway his sandwich in exchange for a cheese slice or peanut butter sandwich. It’s the old saying that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
Thanks to my in-laws our freezer is always stocked with many cuts of Canadian beef, and I even get to request which cuts I would like when they butcher. I always ask for lots of ground beef in two pound packages. No matter the time of year, my husband loves to whip up and grill his burgers outdoors, and it all begins with a package of fresh, from the family farm ground beef.
Everyone has different tastes when it comes to their burger, I seriously doubt that two people would have the exact same burger personality. But, one thing for sure is everyone’s favourite burger starts with pure Canadian beef.
We keep it simple and let the taste of the barbequed ground beef shine through. Sometimes we might add a piece of cheddar, or we might not. It is all about the meat, you know?
A nice white toasted bun is a must, and toppings are always simple fare around here. Ketchup, mustard, relish and maybe….just maybe some shredded lettuce and a slice of tomato, but never a pickle.
Our Canadian family’s burger personality is The Old School.
