On May 11th, Bento Sushi is having the 5th annual Sushi Champion Competition at Ryerson University. It’s a chance for six Bento sushi chefs from across Canada and the U.S. get to compete for the grand title of Bento Sushi Champion, a $5,000 prize, and a chance to have their unique sushi roll come to life, as it will be sold to customers as a limited time product in the fall.

So it’s all about getting creative and making an original sushi roll recipe from their own imagination. Too bad the competition isn’t open to the public, I want to know who gets first dibs on all the sushi that’ll be siting pretty after the competition has claimed its winner? Oh that’s simple, it’s going to be the panel of sushi judges. (Such lucky ducks!)

Who are the Bento Sushi Champion Competition judges?

This year here’s the panel of food industry experts who are going to judge, taste, and score the six unique sushi rolls:

  • Marco Chita (Senior Category Manager for HMR, Discount Division, Loblaw Companies Limited)
  • John Hashimoto (Director of Product Development, Bento Sushi)
  • Liora Ipsum (Food Writer and Editor, BlogTO)
  • Christopher Siu (MasterChef Canada Finalist and Baker, Daango Sweets)
